    Admission Information

Selection for admission into the AT Professional Program is made at the end of the Spring semester.  To enter the professional program in Athletic Training, students must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 and achieve a grade of C or higher in ATR 272, ATR 257, ATR 258, BSC 114/115, EN 101, EN 102, HHE 270, MA 112 or higher, NHM 101 and PY 101.  ATR 258 must be taken at The University of Alabama.

Formal application involves the completion of a professional program application and submission of an official transcript from The University of Alabama and three standardized recommendation forms.  An interview with the selection committee and a practical skills test are also part of the application process. The selection committee is comprised of the AT Program faculty, preceptors, administrators and students.  Students must also meet specific written technical standards prior to admission to the professional phase of the program.  A copy of these standards is available from the office of the program director.

On average, twenty-eight students gain admission to the professional program each year.  The mean GPA of students admitted in 2017 was 3.61.  Selection into the professional phase of the AT Program is competitive and satisfaction of the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.  Following selection, completion of the professional program requires a minimum of six consecutive semesters or three academic years.  Admitted students are required to undergo blood borne pathogen training and a physical examination annually and must maintain current AHA BLS ECC training.  AT students also have access to Hepatitis B vaccination at no charge.  A series of background checks and a drug screening are also required of professional program students annually. Students in the professional program must also adhere to the program's Communicable Disease Policy.

The undergraduate catalog is published yearly. Students should always obtain the most recent advising sheet, available from the HES Student Services Office in 101 Doster Hall.  A brief description of the courses is included in the Undergraduate Catalog and on this website.
